THEATRE OF SPEED
Theatre of Speed is Back to Back Theatre’s community theatre troupe that work at Back to Back every Wednesday, collaborating with the professional ensemble and guest artists in the making of new theatre shows for public performance.
Formed in 2000 as a partnership with St Laurence Disability Services, Theatre of Speed has made five theatre productions, all of which have been performed in Geelong. Theatre of Speed members are self-selecting, choosing to do performance and theatre making as part of their personal program with St Laurence. Company members attend Back to Back at the Courthouse Youth Arts Centre every Wednesday (9am – 3pm) where they focus on developing performance, confidence and team working skills before they go into a period of intensive creative development.
Theatre of Speed works with guest artists during the training period and then with the Guest Director during the rehearsal and production period. The development process leads to an original, co-devised performance towards the end of each year. A production crew of professional designers and composers works collaboratively with the performers and director to stage the work.
